Profound "bullwhip effects" in the chains cause managers to scramble with inventory shortages and consumers attempting to understand product recalls, especially food safety recalls. Add to this the increasing usage of personal mobile devices by managers and consumers seeking real-time information about products, materials and ingredient sources. The popularity of mobile devices with consumers is inexorably tugging at enterprise IT departments to shifting to apps and services. But both consumer and enterprise data is a proprietary asset that must be selectively shared to be efficiently shared.

President Obama's Food Safety Working Group Website

An online food safety information site for consumers and those working in the area has been set up by the White House Food Safety Working Group.

The group's charge:

To have safe food that does not cause us harm and to enhance our food safety systems by fostering coordination throughout the government including enhancing our food safety laws for the 21st century. These laws will be designed to keep the American people safe and will be enforced.

The group's commitment:

To modernize food safety by building collaborative partnerships with consumers, industry and our regulatory partners. Through a transparent process, build a food safety system that will meet the challenges posed by a global food supply in the 21st century.

Pardalis announces impending issuance of second Chinese patent

Stillwater, Okla., U.S., March 20, 2009 - Pardalis, Inc. announced today that a Notice of Acceptance has been issued by the Chinese (PRC) government for a second Common Point AuthoringTM system patent.

The Chinese Notice of Acceptance for Patent Application No. 200480037094.4 covers the essential claims as previously issued to Pardalis by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for US Patent #7,136,869. The US '869 patent is the second US issued patent for the Common Point AuthoringTM system.

"This is the second international issuance of Pardalis’ second US patent entitled Common Point Authoring System for Tracking and Authenticating Objects in a Distribution Chain" said Steve Holcombe, Pardalis' CEO. "New Zealand was the first earlier this year and now follows China."

RFID Update: Leading RFID Brands Stronger Now Than Ever

Four companies dominate the rankings of best-known and best-perceived RFID providers, and their closest competitors are more likely to slide into the pack than to rise to challenge for leadership....

The four top brands in RFID as rated by end users, prospects and the distribution channel are Alien Technology, Motorola, Impinj, and Intermec. Alien, Motorola, and Impinj were the only three firms cited by at least 20 percent of respondents as an industry brand leader, and they are among only five companies recognized by at least 10 percent of respondents. More than twice as many companies were recognized as brand leaders by at least 10 percent of respondents when the original RFID brand research was conducted in 2006. The decline indicates there is more consensus about industry leaders, and growing separation between top firms and all others ....
